If you haven't already seen the commercial, Macy’s has launched COME TOGETHER, an innovative awareness and fundraising campaign with a goal to feed 10 million people suffering from hunger. COME TOGETHER invites us all to help this wonderful cause by hosting special dinners and asking our guests to pledge a donation to Feeding America. In return, Macy’s will match these donations dollar-for-dollar until the total goal of 10 million meals is reached.
Living in an area with a high percentage of poverty, I see the need for programs like Feeding America on a daily basis. You may only think about donating to your local food pantry around the holidays, but the need is there year round. If you bargain shop and can spare a few dollars, your food banks can always use extra canned goods and items many of us often get for free or pennies on the dollar.
How can you get involved in the Macy's Come Together Fundraiser? There are three ways: Host, Give and Shop.
HOST- Friends and families across the country can host dinner parties from casual to formal, send invitations and manage party details including themes and recipes on www.macys.com/cometogether. Instead of bringing traditional host gifts, guests are suggested to make a donation to Feeding America.
GIVE – Donate $1 directly at any Macy’s register, one dollar provides dinner for seven.
SHOP - Macy’s customers can shop for the cause and get special savings in-store on October 17, when Macy’s hosts a national Shop For A Cause day. A portion of the $5 in-store ticket sales will benefit Feeding America.
Think about that. $1 can provide dinner for SEVEN people. That's a lot of bang for a buck! If everyone donates just $1, that 10 million meal goal is certainly attainable.
