I am so excited that our wonderful Lana has added White House Black Market to our already fabulous list of stores.  I love this store; they have some really nice things.  This is a great place to get high quality, fashionable pieces at lower prices than you would pay elsewhere.  I would compare their merchandise to Bloomingdales or Nordstrom, but with Express prices.  ;)

Of course, I always go straight to the clearance section, where you can take an additional 30% off the already reduced prices.  Plus, there’s a feature that allows you to shop by size, which is really helpful.  Check out this black and white silk top for under $30.  I love this piece, because not only is it beautiful, but you can wear it in so many different ways!  Pair this with dark jeans for a casual yet sophisticated look, or wear it under a suit to go flawlessly from day to evening.  They also have quite a few dress pants on sale for $30 to $50.  These are great pants, and I can guarantee you will more than get your money’s worth out of them.

This store is a great place to pick up some nicer pieces that you can pair with things that you already own to give your wardrobe a great update.  The best part is that when you wear a fabulous top, even those jeans you’ve had for years suddenly look nicer.  I suggest using a few key pieces to really spruce up your look for fall and winter; everyone will think you’ve spent a fortune.  J

There’s a chill in the air in NYC this week, and that means fall has returned!  That also means that it’s time for me to update my wardrobe.  My strategy this season is to get a few basic pieces that I can dress up or down and change with different accessories.  That way, I really get the most bang for my buck!  Boscov’s is great for stuff like this.  They offer free shipping on orders of $50 or more, and they always have great deals and bargains.

Baghaus Sale

Baghaus sells bags that look like the real, expensive, brand name bags, but at a fraction of the price. Right now, they're also having a fabulous clearance sale. I'm eyeing this "Celine Tote." It's just $19.99(was $58) and comes in several different colors. I think it's a perfect bag for fall to hold all my stuff. They have a ton of other bags if this one doesn't suit you though, so take a look.

New York Fashion Week – Spring 2009

I know, “fashion time” always seems off to me too, but this week NYC gets a taste of spring, and I’m here to wrap it all up for you. Plus, I’ll tell you where to find these fashions for a small fraction of the designer prices.

First of all, color. Most of what I’ve seen on the runway is neutrals (black, navy, white, cream, taupe and pale pink) accented with pops of bright color (yellow, turquoise and blue). I love this trend because it means I can carry some of my favorite fall and winter pieces into the spring without spending a fortune on new clothes.

Second, shapes and hemlines. The good news (as far as I’m concerned) is that hemlines are long again! The majority of what I’ve seen hits right below the knee and classic, flirty styles are en vogue once again. To me, nothing says spring quite like a flouncy skirt, and they are definitely in style now! Long dresses are back again, which is good news for all of you who are taller than I am. Overall, the look for spring is feminine, flirty, and fun.

Think dark wash jeans, a bright turquoise top, basic black cardigan, and some sandals. You’ll be comfortable and fashionable. Plus, you probably have all of those things in your closet already. If not, or if you’re like me and feel a compulsive need to shop (and really, who among us doesn’t?), then check out some of these great sites for all of your high-fashion-on-a-low-budget needs!
